Remembering September 11th

I was twelve years old, curled up on the couch sick with a cold, when I watched in horror as the second plane hit. My mom’s face streaming with tears, my little brothers asking us what was happening as we sat open-mouthed in motionless shock trying to process how to answer.

Not a 9/11 goes by where I don’t mourn in the vivid remembrance of that day, of the innocent lives lost, and of our fallen heroes who selflessly sacrificed their life so others might live.

Who knew then that one day we would trade foreign terrorism for domestic. That one day those who have spent their lives benefiting from our land of freedom and opportunity, would also spend their lives complaining about it. That one day selfish, complacent, and thankless Americans would seek to destroy their own.

It’s time to stop SAYING we’ll never forget, and start acting like we actually remember.

Back the Blue. Stand for our flag. Pray for our leaders. Love thy neighbor. Remember what we were that day, and what we must always remain:

United.

“Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today’s world do not have.”
(Ronald Reagan)
